Our dance photography sessions are a beautiful way to celebrate milestones and capture artistry at its peak. These sessions document your dancer’s growth, confidence, and evolving technique year after year.

Including:

  • Nutcracker Portraits – Professional portraits in those once-a-year costumes make magical keepsakes.

  • YAGP & Competition Portraits – Stunning costume images perfect for program submissions, portfolios, and memories of your dancer’s competition journey.

  • Recital/Year-End Performance Portraits– Capture each routine’s look before the big performance day. Preserve the artistry and emotion of each role with timeless portraits.

  • Audition & Headshots – Clean, professional images designed for auditions, summer intensives, company applications, and programs. These sessions focus on polished headshots and simple, elegant portraits that highlight your dancer’s technique, confidence, and personality—giving them a strong, professional first impression.

  • Year-End Performance Photography (Tech Week / Dress Rehearsal) – In addition to studio portraits, we also offer performance photography captured during tech week or dress rehearsal. These images preserve the energy, emotion, and artistry of the choreography in a true stage setting, creating powerful keepsakes of each season’s work.

How it works for your studio

Overview

At Janine Collette Photography, we specialize in fine-art ballet and dance imagery that celebrates both artistry and athleticism. We work closely with dance studios to create a seamless, stress-free photo day experience—one that dancers love, parents appreciate, and studios benefit from. Our goal is simple: beautiful images, smooth logistics, and a partnership that truly supports your studio community.

  1. Date Selection – We’ll work with your studio to choose the best date for your dancers.

  2. Studio Walkthrough – Before photo day, we tour your space so we can plan an efficient and comfortable setup.

  3. Backdrops & Lighting – We like to set up two backdrop sections with professional lighting. Beforehand we will discuss which colors to use—we have many colors to choose from, so the look can be customized to your dancers/costumes and your studio’s style.

  4. Booking – Parents reserve their session through our online booking system, choosing from the time slots available on your studio’s selected date.

  5. Session Fee – Each session is $10 per 10 minutes. If your dancer has more than two costumes, parents will book two sessions so we can give each look the attention it deserves.

    • This session gives back to your school: the entire session fee is returned to the studio after photo day.

  6. Session Day Schedule – We typically split the day into two sessions: AM and PM. The morning (AM) is generally reserved for younger ballet levels, while the afternoon/evening (PM) is designed for more advanced dancers. This helps keep the day organized and ensures each dancer has the right environment for their age and level.
  7. Pose Guidance & Support – We provide a dance teacher on site - all day to help guide dancers into technically correct and expressive poses. We also welcome a studio teacher to be present, especially for younger dancers who may feel more confident with a familiar face nearby.  These details can be discussed further to find the option that works best for your studio.

  8. Image Delivery – After the session, parents will receive a personalized online gallery link to view their dancer’s images. From there, they may purchase high-resolution digital downloads or order professional-quality prints directly.

CONTACT JANINE

ABOUT JANINE

I’m Janine—photographer, storyteller, and forever inspired by the artistry of dance. My journey with photography began behind the curtain, watching dancers transform discipline, strength, and emotion into something fleeting yet unforgettable. I wanted to find a way to preserve that magic—every leap, every line, every breath—so that dancers and their families could hold onto it forever.

As a mom of two daughters who dance, I know firsthand how deeply meaningful these images are. The hours of training, the proud smiles after a performance, the quiet moments of grace in between—it all deserves to be remembered. Dance is more than a stage moment; it’s a part of your child’s story, and it deserves to be preserved with care.

For over five years, I’ve photographed Nutcracker and year-end recital performances. I also offer both performance coverage and studio portrait sessions, and I’ve worked with North Jersey School of Dance Arts and New Jersey Civic Youth Ballet capturing studio and live performance imagery.
